In an extremely tight race for the IMSA Weathertech Championship in the new Grand Touring Prototype class, the Konica Minolta Acura team of Filipe Albuquerque and Ricky Taylor took the pole position for Saturday's MOTUL Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. The Acura team is just three points behind Pipo Derani and Alexander Sims' Whelen Engineering Cadillac team. Derani and Sims will begin eighth in the GTP class. Five classes in all will be on the track for the event, with the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2), Le Mans Prototype 3 (LMP3), GT Daytona Pro (GTD Pro) and GT Daytona (GTD) classes.

The 10-hour race is the third-longest on the IMSA schedule, following only the 24-hour run at Daytona to open the season and the 12 Hours of Sebring.
There is a three-way battle for the LMP2 championship, with TDS Racing's Mikkel Jensen and Steven Thomas 20 points ahead of PR1 Mathiason Motorsports' Paul-Loup Chatin and Ben Keating, with Ben Hanley and George Kurtz of Crowdstrike by APR 100 points back.
Saturday's race will feature top drivers from other circuits. 2009 Formula 1 champion Jenson Button, IndyCar champions Scott Dixon and Josef Newgarden will drive, as will four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves.
